Co-organized by the Green Last-Mile Logistics City Platform, led by the URBANE project, and the CIVITAS Urban Logistics and Freight Cluster, this workshop provided a platform for peer-to-peer exchange among European cities and regions at the forefront of decarbonizing and enhancing last-mile logistics. Held in Parma as part of the CIVITAS Forum on October 1, 2024, from 09:30 to 12:00, the event fostered collaborative dialogue and knowledge sharing.
Key presentations from Bologna (URBANE and MOVE21 projects), Hamburg (DECARBOMILE, MOVE 21 projects), and Thessaloniki (URBANE, DISCO projects) showcased innovative projects currently underway in these cities. Attendees had the opportunity to delve into specific solutions, share lessons learned, and discuss the feasibility of replicating successful strategies in their own regions.
The discussions highlighted the complex challenges posed by increasing e-commerce demands, such as urban traffic congestion and environmental impacts. Participants examined a variety of green logistics solutions, including electric vehicles, micro-hubs, and optimized delivery routes. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of effective stakeholder collaboration, data sharing, and supportive policy frameworks in addressing these challenges.
The Senator project made significant contributions to the working group discussions that followed the initial presentations. Sharing valuable insights from its recent pilot implementations in two urban living labs, representatives from Dublin City Council and Correos provided perspectives based on the preliminary results of these initiatives, enriching the overall dialogue.
